Pitti Uomo, in Florence, started today!
January 10, 2017
Today, at 10.30 am, started the 91st edition of Pitti Uomo, in Florence. Hundreds of the best menswear brands in the world occupy the Fortezza de Basso, a 14th century fort in Florence, ready to tell the world the fashion trends about menswear.
With its events and continually changing geography, Pitti Uomo captures the new vibrations of fashion and transforms them into original projects. The program of special events for January will further overcome the duality between fair and fashion week, moving towards new formats that combine stylistic research, communication and market authenticity.
Paul Smith is the Special Guest of the edition. The designer has chosen Pitti Immagine Uomo 91 as the stage to launch his PS by Paul Smith autumn/winter ‘17 collection. PS by Paul Smith, a contemporary line which launched in May 2016, draws on Paul Smith’s signature design characteristics of confident colour and print, whilst bringing in elements of performance characteristics and technical fabrics.
Today, the fashion fair is divided in lots of sections, such as Hi Beauty, Make, Pop Up, Unconventional, Urban Panorama and much more.
This year, the official photographer is Guy Martin, known for his powerful coverage of the revolutions that swept through the Middle East and North Africa in 2011, specifically his documentation of the Egyptian uprising and the civil war in Libya.
During the fair, you can enjoy fashion shows, music shows, conferences, parties, and much more. Pitti Uomo, also known as “Pitti Men” is more than a fair: it’s an experience, it is spending some days in a glamourous future.
The first edition of Pitti Uomo was held in Florence in September 1972. The exhibition provided a platform for raising the profile of Italian designers and now has achieved international stature as a leading fashion fair. Pitti Uomo is credited with making dandyism acceptable to a wider audience.
